The Rhode Island Police Chiefs’ Association said it will launch a campaign Thursday aimed at increasing the public’s faith in police departments. The leaders of state, local and campus police departments announced the “Twenty for 2020” campaign at a morning news conference. The association said the initiative will address statewide policing standards and practices and that it will focus on training, transparency, communication and human rights. Policing has come under new scrutiny during a national reckoning over racism and police brutality following George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis.
