Chief Joseph Ottaviano

Chief Ottaviano began his career as a Rhode Island State Marshal in 1998. In 2001, after the horrific attacks of 911 he transferred to the Rhode Island Airport Corporation Police Department. After four years of service he obtained the rank of Inspector. As the lone detective for the department Chief Ottaviano handled all investigations, and prosecutions for 14 years. He also acted as the department training coordinator during that time frame. Chief Ottaviano was asked to run the day to day operations of the department in 2013 until 2019.

Chief Ottaviano was appointed to lead the Airport Corporation Police Department in November of 2020. In addition to the responsibilities of overseeing the complete operation of the police department, Chief Ottaviano is also an Airport Security Coordinator (ASC). As an ASC, Chief Ottaviano is responsible for aiding the operations department in the overall security of the airport in accordance to 49 CFR 1542. In addition to the responsibilities of safety and security, Chief Ottaviano and his department are focused on the customer service experience of our passengers and tenants.

Chief Ottaviano served four years in the United States Air Force as both a Security and Law Enforcement Officer with certifications from Customs and Border Patrol. He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree from St. Ambrose University of Iowa. Chief Ottaviano has also achieved his Airport Certified Employee (ACE) certification from the American Association of Airport Executives.
