Chief Richard P. St. Sauveur

Chief St.Sauveur was appointed as Police Chief in Smithfield on May 17, 2010, after having served his entire law enforcement career on the Smithfield Police Department. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Westfield State University and Master’s Degree in Administration of Justice from Salve Regina University. Chief St.Sauveur has served as an assessor for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), and currently serves as Chairperson of the Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission (RIPAC). He also currently serves as the Chairperson of the Rhode Island Police Chief’s Association By-Laws Committee, and is a member of the Smithfield Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Task Force.
